Helm
04:07
|
|||
if only I was at the helm
the masses would be adrift
no wind-spurred waves could overtake
all threats from rivals would end quick
Ideas in the wrong hands marred
the dormant dreams that we could make
a commune of higher realm
impressive futures without war
yet here we find ourselves at risk
imperiled by the scandalous
they cannot be allowed to spread
their propaganda slanderous
seeping into youthful minds
conviction bore-holed filled with dread
obsolete like floppy disks
not worthy of a silhouette
so to protect all that is mine
i'll take what's yours for common good
pretend i know my right from left
get you to trust me though you shouldn't
suddenly i'm overwhelmed
i realize i'm bereft
each successor says the line
'if only i was at the helm'
if only i was at the helm

South of Heaven
03:15
|
|||
Maybe it’s time to pack up and leave?
They don’t want us here anyway.
Just a lot of finger pointing,
about things we didn’t do or say.
Grab our bags, do the midnight hustle.
Christ, we owe ‘em nothing to stay.
And I ain’t got the muscle…
to fight them off anyway.
You can drive and I’ll ride shotgun.
Let’s point the car in that direction.
It’s not too far to drive.
It’s downhill all the way…
and a little bit south of Heaven.
Load the car, let’s leave this city.
We'll leave ‘em in a cloud of confusion.
Say Adios to negativity,
and Au revoir adversity too.
There’s a town just south of Heaven.
We’ve only been there once.
Do you remember the time we had there?
When we rolled the bones and it came up seven?
You can drive and I’ll ride shotgun. Let’s point the car in that direction. It’s not too far to drive. It’s downhill all the way… and a little bit south of Heaven.

I’ve been here hundreds of times
I even sit here just to think,
sometimes the walls bleed,
sometimes I cry but I’m okay with that
because there are flowers here,
the sun shines except for when it doesn’t,
despite all the horror, there is so much love,
endless love,
LOVE
glorious heart and soul love,
with my entire being plus more love
french toast in the morning, love
doing the dishes,
folding the laundry love,
waiting for the perfect day to dance in the rain
waking up in our own little world
where it’s just us and no one else,
and at the bottom, at the base,
there is a little paper cup telephone attached to twine
that runs for miles and miles,
and at the other end is a cup attached to twine in your room,
and I know it well there, too
hello?!
we talk together, love
when we can’t eat, love
when we can’t sleep, love
when we can’t figure out what to do,
when the world is unraveling around us,
when we make music, love;
we make art together, love
and we hold it close when, love,
nothing else is allowed in
a wind through the window, love
but all of the doors are closed, and love
LOVE

Audrey the Baby
01:10
|
|||
Audrey, I want to thank you
for donating to CKUW.
And, Audrey, I know you're a baby -
you got the whole world before you.
And yet you donated all of your baby money
that was probably going to your education.
So thank you, Audrey,
on behalf of CKUW.
I'm sure they'll use it to buy important equipment
like headphones and transistors.
I don't even know if they need transistors,
but now they can buy it
thanks to your baby money.
So thank you, Audrey -
you're the greatest baby that ever lived.

There once was a cat named Gio
Who wanted a free ride to Rio.
Her sister Flo
Never wanted to go.
So they settled on Rome - Mama Mia!
